Chennai: A controversy erupted after CM Vijay’s close astrologer, Ricky Rathan Pandit Vettrivel, was given a government assignment as Special Officer in the Chief Minister’s political wing.
The appointment drew objections from Congress and Communist parties, which have been supporting the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government. Following the backlash, the government role granted to the astrologer was cancelled.
Amid this, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram’s remarks have triggered unease within the party. Referring to a historical anecdote about Roman ruler Caligula appointing his favoured horse “Incitatus” to a key position, he criticised the move using the phrase “Caligula Incitatus.”
With Congress having backed Vijay to form the government, the public criticism has led to internal friction and renewed debate within the party over its stance.
