Congress will announce the name of Kerala’s new Chief Minister on May 14, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said in New Delhi.
The Congress-led alliance has secured a majority in the Kerala Assembly election and is set to form the government. However, the party has faced intense internal uncertainty over the Chief Minister’s post.
The contest has centred on three leaders—K C Venugopal, V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala—leading to prolonged discussions within the party. With pressure mounting, Congress central leaders visited Kerala for talks, but the decision remained pending.
The three contenders were later called to Delhi for further negotiations. Jairam Ramesh said the newly elected Congress MLAs have authorised the party leadership to choose the Chief Minister, and that the final decision has now been taken and will be formally announced on May 14.
