The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai said the southwest monsoon is likely to commence over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 16.
In Tamil Nadu, the weather office forecast heavy rain on May 14 in Coimbatore, Theni, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.
For May 15, heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni and Dindigul.
On May 16, similar conditions may occur at isolated places in Nilgiris and Coimbatore. The forecast extends to May 17–19, with heavy thundershowers likely at one or two places across Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, and also Theni on May 18 and May 19.
