Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced an increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and teachers. The DA has been raised from 58% to 60%.
According to a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government, the hike will be implemented with effect from January 1. The government said officials and teachers play a key role in designing and executing welfare schemes.
The statement noted that the Centre had raised DA for its employees to 60% from January 1, and the state government has decided to extend a similar benefit to its employees and teachers.
The decision is expected to benefit about 16 lakh people, including government staff, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.
The government said the revision would result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 1,230 crore, and that necessary additional funds would be allocated to meet the cost.
