Chennai: The BJP in Tamil Nadu has condemned remarks made by DMK and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders on Sanatan Dharma, calling them offensive to religious sentiments and damaging to social harmony.

BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said a TVK MLA’s reported statement that the party had “entered the field to eradicate Sanatanam” was unacceptable. He questioned whether such comments reflected the “change” promised by TVK and urged strict action to prevent a repeat.

Former BJP state president K Annamalai said that soon after DMK MLA Udhayanidhi spoke in the Assembly about eliminating Sanatan Dharma, TVK MLA Mustafa had voiced support for that view. He alleged that the comments showed deep hostility towards what he described as an enduring way of life, and claimed DMK and TVK had revealed themselves as “two sides of the same coin.”

BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Tirupathi said a people’s representative speaking about “eradicating” another faith’s way of life would hurt religious harmony. He also criticised the lack of condemnation from Chief Minister Vijay regarding the remarks attributed to Udhayanidhi and Mustafa.

The BJP leaders demanded firm steps against those who made the statements and called for measures to ensure similar incidents do not recur.
