Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has accused a section of former ministers of betraying the party in pursuit of positions in the ruling dispensation.

In a statement, Palaniswami said that after the Assembly election setback, some former ministers who had won as AIADMK candidates were allegedly lured by assurances that they would be given six ministerial berths and 10 board chairperson posts if they aligned with the government.

He alleged that they voted in favour of a government confidence motion, acting against the party’s official whip, and called it a major act of betrayal against the AIADMK.

Palaniswami also said those who, in his view, betrayed the party were now levelling various allegations against him, which he described as painful. He urged party functionaries and cadre to remain cautious of individuals acting out of self-interest for ministerial and board posts.

Reaffirming the party’s legacy, he said he was ready to make any sacrifice to uphold Jayalalithaa’s belief that the AIADMK would continue to work for the people, and called on all functionaries and cadre to work with commitment to rebuild and return to power.
