New Delhi: The Supreme Court on May 14 concluded hearings in the Sabarimala-related case after 16 days of arguments and reserved its verdict.

A nine-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has been hearing petitions concerning the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple issue in Kerala, along with pleas raising questions about discrimination against women across different religions.

During the final day of hearings, the court observed that religious denominations and organisations are necessary for sustaining religion in the country.

The judges also noted that some people may not visit temples or have a separate place of worship at home, yet continue to identify themselves as Hindus as it remains a way of life.

With submissions from all sides completed, the bench ordered that the judgment be kept pending and will be delivered later.
