DMK president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said he would take responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent Assembly election, urging leaders to avoid blame games and focus on rebuilding.
Speaking at a meeting of DMK district secretaries at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, Stalin noted that no party had secured a clear majority and that the new government had been formed with the support of DMK’s alliance partners.
He said the election outcome reflected what he described as a “new kind of charm-driven tsunami”, using the term to indicate the scale of impact rather than any achievement. Stalin asked party functionaries to examine constituency-specific issues and conduct a structured review by collecting feedback from organisers at all levels.
Stressing that organisational changes must begin with self-correction, he called for unity and an end to factionalism. He also underlined the growing role of social media as a political arena and asked cadres to participate directly, saying campaign styles and methods would need to change.
Stalin told district secretaries who felt they could not function effectively to step aside, and said the setback was temporary. He urged the party to plan, work harder and return to winning ways in the next election.
