The Supreme Court has announced cost-saving steps aimed at reducing vehicle movement, stating that hearings will be conducted only through video conferencing on two days each week.
According to the decision, there will be no in-person hearings on Mondays and Fridays. The court said the move is intended to cut travel and related fuel use.
The announcement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce petroleum consumption and adopt work-from-home practices wherever feasible. Several stakeholders have begun taking steps in line with the advisory.
As part of the new measures, the Supreme Court said judges coming to the court will share cars. It also said 50% of staff will be allowed to work from home for two days a week.
