The newly sworn-in TVK government in Tamil Nadu, led by Vijay, is yet to allocate portfolios or complete the full cabinet even four days after nine ministers took oath, sources said.
Those who have already assumed office include Anand, Aadhav, Arunraj, Sengottaiyan, Venkata Ramanan, Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Prabhu and Keerthana. However, the government has not issued an official announcement on departmental responsibilities.
According to TVK sources, the delay is driven by competing demands—pressure from Congress MLAs seeking ministerial berths and requests from an AIADMK faction that has extended support to the government. An announcement is expected around May 18, and Congress may get two cabinet positions, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the Marxist and the Communist parties, which had supported the government, have withdrawn from the cabinet. TVK sources also said Vijay is keen on sharing power with VCK, and a berth could be considered if Thol. Thirumavalavan wins a by-election.
Thirumavalavan has not yet announced his final decision on supporting TVK, though he had earlier said his support was to avoid President’s Rule. If VCK joins the government, Vanniyarasu, the VCK MLA from Tindivanam, could be inducted, sources said. Separately, a group led by Velumani’s side—said to have 25 MLAs—has also sought cabinet representation, though its demand reportedly came down from eight posts to five amid questions related to anti-defection rules.
