Kolkata: The West Bengal government has directed that the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ must be sung during morning prayer assemblies in all schools across the state.
In a circular issued by the state School Education Department, authorities said the instruction takes effect immediately and applies to every school in West Bengal.
The circular also asks schools to confirm implementation by submitting video evidence showing that the directive has been followed.
Until now, school prayer meetings in West Bengal had typically included only the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
