DMK has constituted a 36-member field study committee to analyse the reasons behind its defeat in the Assembly election and to initiate internal corrective steps. The panel was formed on the instructions of party president M.K. Stalin.
The committee includes leaders such as Ezhilarasan, Chozharajan, Poochi Murugan, Jagan Periyasamy, Saravanan, Ilaiyaraja, Mursoli MP and Salem Umarani, among others. The team is expected to gather inputs across constituencies where the party contested.
As part of the exercise, the members will meet district secretaries, constituency in-charges, candidates, and executive and general council members separately. They will also hold individual discussions with city, union, town, area and panchayat-level secretaries.
The party leadership has instructed that district secretaries, constituency observers and candidates should not be present when feedback is collected. It has also directed that attendance of officials participating in the review meetings be properly recorded in a register.
However, some party functionaries and cadres have expressed concern that those appointed for field study may not be fully familiar with the party’s rules and procedures, which could allow inaccurate or false information to be conveyed. They have urged the leadership to video-record the comments and reasons shared during the review to capture inputs directly.
