Madurai East TVK MLA Karthikeyan has submitted a petition to Madurai Police Commissioner Abhishek Dixit, seeking strict action to stop illegal liquor sales and the sale of banned narcotic substances in his constituency.

According to the petition, liquor is allegedly being sold across Tamil Nadu outside the permitted hours—both before opening time and after shops are supposed to close—leading to law-and-order issues and contributing to night-time crimes.

The MLA also referred to Chief Minister Vijay’s directive to shut down 717 liquor outlets in the first phase, particularly those located near educational institutions and places of worship. He urged that such outlets in Madurai East be closed immediately in line with the order.

In addition to liquor, he called for a complete crackdown on the sale of substances such as ganja, cool lip, SSD, stamp, gutka and tobacco products. He warned that if the sale of banned drugs continues in his area, he would join the public in protests.
