Trichy-based DMK former minister K.N. Nehru’s brother, Ramajayam, was murdered in March 2012. Despite multiple rounds of investigation, the perpetrators have not been identified.

The case was earlier probed by the Trichy City Police, the CBCID and later the CBI, but none of the agencies could crack it. After the DMK came to power in 2021, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP Jayakumar was formed, with a dedicated office set up in Trichy.

Even then, the SIT did not make headway. About a year ago, CBCID DIG Varunkumar was appointed as the officer in charge and constituted a fresh team to intensify the probe, but there has been no progress till date.

Now, following a change in government, personnel attached to the SIT have reportedly been instructed to return to their original postings. This has led to indications that the SIT has been dissolved.
