Madurai: Law and Electricity Minister Nirmal Kumar on Friday said the proposed Rs 2,500 monthly entitlement for women, announced by Chief Minister Vijay, can be implemented only after the state budget is presented.
Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, the minister said the government must first set its financial resources in order before rolling out the scheme.
He also said officials are conducting inspections and sealing outlets linked to gutka and other narcotics, illegal stone quarries and liquor shops. Calling it a “new version” of governance, he said this is not the old style of administration.
The minister claimed the law-and-order situation is under control and that the Chief Minister is reviewing departments daily, including assessing how responsibilities are allocated. He said the administration has been altered over decades and cannot be corrected in a single day, adding that the government expects things to stabilise in the next one or two months.
He further said officials have been given full freedom to act and that government actions are being carried out transparently, adding that the Chief Minister would meet the media at an appropriate time.
