US President Donald Trump, on a three-day visit to China, has said he agrees with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s reported remark that the United States is a country in decline.
According to Trump, Xi made the comment indirectly on the first day of the trip. Trump wrote on his social media account that Xi’s assessment was “100% right,” but argued it referred to the impact of former President Joe Biden’s four-year administration.
Trump said Xi was not describing the current US administration. He claimed that since returning to office 16 months ago, the United States has seen an “incredible rise” and has become a more advanced nation.
Trump’s visit is aimed at improving bilateral ties, with discussions expected to cover economic cooperation, diplomatic relations and investments between the two countries.
