Chennai: The BJP leadership has instructed its Tamil Nadu unit to conduct monthly meetings at every level—from the state executive to booth committees—to ensure party-building work is carried out in a structured manner.
The direction comes in the backdrop of the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election outcome, where the BJP, part of the AIADMK-led NDA, contested 27 constituencies and won only in Ooty. The result has reportedly left party workers demoralised.
After the defeat, BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh, during visits to Coimbatore and Chennai, asked functionaries to intensify organisational activities. Following this, state BJP president Nainar Nagendran conveyed the monthly-meeting plan to office-bearers.
Responsibility for the meetings has been assigned to specific leaders: state vice-president Chakravarthy for the state executive meeting; state general secretary A.P. Muruganandam for district-level meetings; state vice-president Karu Nagarajan for mandal-level meetings; state general secretary M. Muruganandam for Shakti Kendra meetings; and state vice-president Jaiprakash for booth committee meetings. State general secretary Karthiyayini has been named in charge of the party’s ‘Manathin Kural’ programme.
In Coimbatore, a state core committee meeting is scheduled on May 19, followed by a meeting of district presidents on May 20. The Tamil Nadu BJP has 67 districts, 1,232 mandals, 17,000 Shakti Kendras and 50,000 booth committees, according to the party.
