Chennai Police Commissioner has issued an order directing that TASMAC and Elite TASMAC liquor outlets in the city must be closed by 10 pm.
The directive follows an earlier instruction to shut liquor shops located within 500 metres of places of worship, educational institutions and bus stands. Based on this, 717 outlets were identified as causing inconvenience to the public, and orders have been issued to close them.
In the latest order sent to all police stations, the Commissioner specified operating hours for different categories of outlets. While TASMAC and Elite TASMAC shops must shut by 10 pm, F2 shops are to close by 10 pm and F3 shops by 12 midnight.
Patrol teams have been instructed to supervise the closures and upload photographs as proof of compliance. The order also states that F2 and F3 outlets must sell only at permitted locations and not beyond approved places and timings, warning that violations will invite action against those responsible.
