Chennai: After taking charge as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Vijay has begun holding daily, department-wise reviews at the Secretariat with senior officials. The exercise is aimed at understanding each department’s functioning, importance and its impact on the public.

According to reports, concerns such as law and order issues, the spread of alcohol and drug culture, and crimes against women were seen as factors behind the DMK’s defeat. In this backdrop, Vijay has retained the Police department along with portfolios linked to women, youth and child welfare.

He has also kept the Special Programme Implementation department under his charge, as it oversees schemes that have a significant public impact, including initiatives like the women’s entitlement assistance.

With the party recording major wins in cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Salem, Vijay is said to be focusing on meeting urban expectations. For this reason, he has retained Municipal Administration and Water Supply as well.

Additionally, information has emerged that Vijay plans to appoint special officers and directly monitor sectors including health, school education, rural development, TASMAC, drug prevention and women’s safety-related departments.
