Former Tamil Nadu finance minister Thangam Thennarasu has criticised newly appointed Industry Minister Keerthana over her remarks on the state’s debt, calling them factually incorrect and lacking basic understanding of public finance.
Speaking to reporters in Virudhunagar, the minister had alleged that the previous government left behind a debt of ₹10.50 lakh crore. She also said projects would be taken up only after a complete review of the debt position.
Responding in a social media post, Thennarasu accused the minister of making unfounded claims and spreading what he described as defamatory narratives. He alleged that such statements attempt to create a misleading public perception through social media messaging.
He further questioned whether senior officials and the finance minister—whom he described as experienced in government and financial administration—would step in to correct the minister’s assertions or allow what he termed “cheap प्रचार” to continue.
