India has condemned the targeting of merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, calling such actions unacceptable at a special meeting of the United Nations in New York.

India’s UN envoy Parvathaneni Harish said that attacks on commercial vessels, threats to civilians and crew, and any obstruction to freedom of navigation cannot be accepted.

The remarks come as the Strait of Hormuz—crucial for global crude oil movement—has been disrupted amid the ongoing US-Israel war against Iran. The disruption has pushed crude prices sharply higher in global markets.

According to the report, the price surge has led to fuel shortages in several countries. India urged full respect for international law and said the crisis requires coordinated action through international cooperation.
