Actor Kamal Haasan on Saturday said Chief Minister Vijay should be given at least six months before drawing conclusions about his performance. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at Madurai airport.

Kamal said it is unrealistic to assess a government in just a few days, adding that many newcomers have entered public life and should neither be underestimated nor burdened with excessive expectations. He noted that in independent India’s early days too, many ministers were first-timers.

He urged voters to closely observe whether the mandate they gave is being carried out properly, and said he and others would also keep watch. He also remarked that when a Tamil-speaking leader from Tamil Nadu starts a party, it is often labelled a “Dravidian party.”

Responding to a question on reports of an order making a three-language policy compulsory in Tamil Nadu, Kamal asked whether the state could be forced into it. On another query about Vijay’s comments made with a smile, Kamal said there was no jealousy between them and added that they would compete in a sporting spirit, like in cricket.
