Police in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested an assistant professor of Lucknow University following a complaint of sexual harassment by a second-year undergraduate student.

The accused, identified as Paramjit Singh, works in the Zoology department. The student alleged that he had been harassing her for several days, including sending obscene messages to her mobile phone and attempting to summon her alone.

According to the complaint, he sent a voice message stating that he had kept two question papers for her and would hand them over if she came alone to meet him.

The student, reportedly under severe mental stress, approached the university administration. Based on a complaint filed by the university’s controller, Vidyanand Tripathi, Hasanganj police registered a case and arrested the professor.

Paramjit Singh has denied the allegations, claiming he is being targeted due to politics within the university.
