Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has officially allotted portfolios to the nine ministers who took oath along with Chief Minister Vijay, with the Governor’s office issuing the notification.
The report said the Chief Minister has retained seven departments, including Home and Municipal Administration. It also noted that the Municipal Administration portfolio, which earlier had a separate minister, has now been placed under the Chief Minister for the first time.
Minister Sengottaiyan has been assigned the Finance portfolio, according to the announcement.
The delay in portfolio allocation had drawn criticism, as the ministers who were sworn in had been functioning without specific departments. The report added that discussions on cabinet expansion are continuing, with expectations among supporting parties and within the ruling party.
The report further said cabinet expansion may be delayed as Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar is currently holding additional charge as Tamil Nadu’s Governor and is expected to be in Kerala for the swearing-in of a new government there in the coming days.
