Kerala Police have registered a case after posters were pasted in and around a Congress office in Wayanad, alleging that Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi had “forgotten” the constituency.
Rahul Gandhi had contested the last Lok Sabha election from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala, winning both seats. He later resigned from Wayanad, following which Priyanka Gandhi contested the bypoll and won.
The posters surfaced as political attention in the state focused on the formation of the new government after the recently concluded Kerala Assembly election, in which the Congress emerged victorious. Senior leader V.D. Satheesan has been chosen as Chief Minister and is set to take oath today, while efforts by Rahul Gandhi’s close aide K.C. Venugopal to secure the top post did not succeed.
According to the posters, K.C. Venugopal may be “carrying Rahul’s bag,” but the people of Kerala would not forgive him. Another poster warned that if such decisions continued, Wayanad would deliver a verdict similar to Amethi.
Police said they examined video footage from the area and identified a person pasting the posters. A case has been filed and further inquiry is under way to trace and question the individual.
