Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has cancelled his planned trip to Kerala, according to information that emerged on Sunday.

Vijay had been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Kerala’s new Chief Minister Satheesan in Thiruvananthapuram. The event is scheduled to be administered by Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar, with several Congress national leaders expected to participate.

The Chief Minister was earlier set to fly to Thiruvananthapuram on a special aircraft on Sunday morning. However, the visit was abruptly called off.

Sources said the decision was linked to convention, under which a newly sworn-in Chief Minister typically visits Delhi first to meet the President and the Prime Minister. Vijay is now preparing to travel to Delhi next week.

He is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, among others. The meeting with the Prime Minister is likely after Modi returns from an overseas trip.
