Chennai: Armed Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vijayalakshmi has denied allegations that she hit a police administrative staff member with a shoe at the Armed Police headquarters in Kilpauk.
The allegation triggered a response from the police administrative staff union, which passed a resolution seeking departmental action against the DIG and submitted a complaint to Director General of Police (DGP) Sandeep Rai Rathore. The DGP has reportedly assured that action would be taken.
Following the assurance, the union has temporarily put on hold its decision to launch protests against Vijayalakshmi.
In her clarification, Vijayalakshmi said she has served in the police department for over 25 years without any prior allegations. She stated that she had processed staff petitions, including transfer requests, through proper procedures.
She added that the concerned staff member’s conduct appeared suspicious, and she scolded him. However, she said false claims were being spread that she assaulted him and hit him with a shoe, and she has submitted her explanation to senior officials about what occurred.
