Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a two-day visit to Sweden, said India’s economic reform process is moving at “full speed” and called on Swedish companies to expand investments in sectors such as clean energy and green hydrogen.
Modi arrived in Sweden as part of a five-nation tour, after visiting the UAE and the Netherlands. He was received at the airport by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, with an official welcome, while members of the Indian diaspora also greeted him.
During the visit, Sweden honoured Modi with the country’s high civilian award, the Royal Order of the Polar Star (Commander Grand Cross), presented by Princess Victoria. The report said this is the 31st top honour received by Modi.
Addressing an industry-focused meeting, Modi sought deeper cooperation in electronics, technology manufacturing, artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, transport, urban transformation, healthcare and life sciences. He said India has pursued reforms, performance and transformation over the past 12 years, and stressed that political will has helped accelerate the reform agenda.
Modi also pointed to shared values such as democracy, transparency, innovation and stability, and urged linking Sweden’s strengths in innovation with India’s scale and growth momentum. He said the India–European Union free trade agreement has been successfully concluded, opening new opportunities in trade, technology, manufacturing, services and resilient supply chains, and reiterated the message: “Design in India, Make in India, and Export from India.”
