Police have registered a case against DMK-aligned speaker and political commentator Ponraj, following allegations that he made controversial and defamatory remarks about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the party’s women functionaries.
According to the complaint, the remarks were made ahead of the Assembly elections and were seen as targeting TVK’s women workers. TVK leader Vijay had earlier met officials at the DGP office in Chennai and submitted a complaint, seeking strict action.
After the controversy, Ponraj said his comments were misunderstood and issued an apology. In a parallel development, he also filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner, alleging that he had received death threats from TVK members.
Based on complaints from TVK office-bearers, the Cuddalore Puthunagar police registered a case against Ponraj under four sections. A similar case has also been registered against him in Chennai.
