CV Shanmugam, speaking on behalf of the camp aligned with former minister SP Velumani, said in Chennai that they would “accept the decision of the general council with heads bowed” and called for the party’s general council to be convened.
He alleged that under Edappadi K Palaniswami’s (EPS) leadership, the AIADMK had suffered repeated electoral defeats, beginning in 2019, and claimed the party’s vote base was steadily declining.
Shanmugam said certain parties had expressed willingness to join an alliance, but alleged EPS ignored those overtures and failed to accommodate potential partners such as DMDK and Puthiya Tamilagam. He also claimed that the appointment of new office-bearers made by EPS was invalid.
Reiterating that their only aim was to “retrieve” the AIADMK, Shanmugam said they were ready to speak at the general council. He further alleged that threatening functionaries would not help the party grow and accused EPS of violating party rules.
