Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has ordered the renovation and upgradation of Amma Canteens across the state, following complaints about declining food quality and taste.
At present, 383 Amma Canteens are run by the Greater Chennai Corporation, while 237 are operated by other municipal corporations and municipalities.
In recent months, the quality and flavour of food served at several outlets were reported to be unsatisfactory, and the issue was brought to the Chief Minister’s attention.
After consultations with concerned department secretaries, the Chief Minister instructed officials to strengthen infrastructure facilities and immediately procure required cooking equipment.
He also directed that tasty, quality food should be provided to the public without disruption, and said municipal bodies may meet renovation and procurement expenses from their general funds.
