Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said India has become a Naxal-free country, asserting that the nation has endured the impact of Naxalism from 1971 until March 31, 2026.
Speaking at an event in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, attended by people affected by Naxal violence and officials, Shah said the end of the insurgency was achieved through the sacrifices of thousands of security personnel. He described it as the culmination of a long struggle marked by bloodshed, fear and stalled development.
Shah said the losses of the past 50 years would be repaired within the next five years. He also appealed to surrendered Maoists to give up violence and rejoin society with dignity.
Linking the effort to the broader national agenda, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal of making India fully developed by 2047. Shah added that the Home Ministry would ensure basic facilities such as roads, rural development, banks, post offices, cooking gas, tap water for every home, free food grains, electricity and other amenities.
He further said security forces have cleared Naxal strongholds through key operations across regions stretching from Chhattisgarh to Jharkhand, Bihar and Telangana.
