Kathmandu: Two Nepali Sherpa mountain guides have reached a fresh milestone on Mount Everest by surpassing their own world records for the most successful ascents.
Everest, the world’s highest peak at 29,031 feet above sea level, stands on the Nepal–Tibet border in the Himalayas. Extreme cold, dangerous high-speed winds and low oxygen levels near the summit make the climb a major challenge.
Veteran climber Kami Rita Sherpa, popularly known as the “Everest Man,” has completed his 32nd successful summit. He first reached the top in 1994 during a commercial expedition and has since guided international climbers almost every year, including seasons in which he summited twice.
Lhakpa Sherpa, often called the “Queen of the Mountain,” has now touched the summit for the 11th time, further strengthening her own record among women. She is also noted as the first Nepali woman to summit Everest and return safely, a feat she achieved in 2000.
