Washington has approved a technical support programme worth ₹4,122 crore aimed at improving the operational capability of India’s Apache attack helicopters and howitzer artillery guns.
According to a statement from the US State Department, Boeing and Lockheed Martin will serve as the principal contractors for Apache helicopter maintenance. For the howitzer guns, BAE Systems will be the main contractor.
The package for the Apache fleet includes engineering, technical and logistics support services, along with technical data and training for personnel.
For the howitzers, the programme covers spare parts, repair services, training, technical assistance, field service representation and other logistics support.
The statement said the arrangement is significant for strengthening military ties with India and supporting India’s border security.
