India has finalised two defence support agreements with the United States to procure spare parts, maintenance and long-term support services for AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and M777A2 howitzers. The combined value of the deals is about Rs 4,100 crore, aimed at keeping key platforms combat-ready.

According to the details cleared by the US State Department, around Rs 1,900 crore has been earmarked for long-term maintenance and support for Apache helicopters. A further Rs 2,200 crore is allocated for spare parts and maintenance for the M777 howitzers.

The packages include engineering and technical assistance, supply of spares, repairs and training services. The Apache platform is equipped with advanced systems such as a 30 mm gun, missiles and rockets, long-range radar and sensors that aid night operations.

The M777 is a lightweight howitzer designed for easier movement to the battlefield, with a firing range of about 20 to 40 km. The US statement said Boeing and Lockheed Martin will execute the Apache-related support, while BAE Systems will provide spares and maintenance services for the M777.

The US side said the sale would help strengthen India’s ability to respond to threats and reinforce its role as a key power in South Asia by improving readiness through sustained support for these systems.
