Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan on Tuesday said the party improved its vote share in the latest Assembly election, even amid what he described as a “Vijay wave”.

He said the BJP contested 23 constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, where the total votes polled in those seats were 2.50 crore. Of this, the BJP secured 49.18 lakh votes, averaging 19.62%.

In the current Assembly election, he said the BJP contested 27 seats and alliance partners contested six seats on the lotus symbol, taking the total to 33 constituencies. In these seats, he said 66.03 lakh votes were polled and the BJP received 14.67 lakh votes, an average of 22.22%.

Narayanan also claimed that the DMK’s vote share fell from 48% in the 2021 Assembly election to 24% in the current election, and that the vote shares of the VCK and the Communist parties also declined.

He said the BJP was the party with the next-highest vote share after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, adding that the BJP not only retained its votes but also increased them despite the “Vijay wave”.
