Tamil Nadu’s Health Department has ordered a fresh, detailed investigation into allegations of kidney theft linked to hospitals, according to officials.

The case had earlier caused shock after reports emerged that weaving wage workers from areas including Pallipalayam, Kumarapalayam and Tiruchengode in Namakkal district were targeted. Three people have already been arrested in connection with the incident.

Despite the arrests, suspicions were raised about possible links to influential political figures. In this backdrop, the department has now directed that the inquiry be taken up again.

The renewed probe has been ordered under the leadership of Chitra, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services. The order states that strict action should be taken against anyone found responsible, including doctors, hospital staff, nurses and intermediaries.

Officials noted that the investigation had previously been temporarily paused during the election period.
