Coimbatore: After establishing itself in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Chief Minister Vijay is preparing to expand its footprint across other southern states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The party, launched on February 2, 2024, is said to have secured a major win in its first Assembly election. Political rivals have claimed TVK’s rise was aided by outreach through children and extensive use of social media. In Puducherry, TVK has also won two constituencies, marking an early start to its presence there.

TVK leaders point to Vijay’s fan base beyond Tamil Nadu, noting that the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam—formed during his film career—had already been active in neighbouring states and carried out welfare initiatives. They said booth-level committee work in Kerala had begun earlier under that banner and has since been completed and submitted to the leadership.

As part of the next phase, TVK has begun holding programmes under the party name in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, replacing the earlier Vijay Makkal Iyakkam identity. Introductory meetings were recently held in Kerala’s Palakkad and Thrissur districts, where organisers are preparing for membership drives.

According to party functionaries, more than 1,000 people expressed interest in joining during the Palakkad and Thrissur events. They said membership enrolment across the four states will begin after an official announcement by the party leadership.
