DMK MP A Raja has come under fire after a social media post attributed to him was widely criticised as derogatory towards women. Leaders from multiple parties and groups issued statements condemning the language and the political messaging behind it.
Tamil Nadu BJP vice-president Narayanan Thirupathi said Raja had used “low-grade words” while targeting the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Muslim League, and later deleted the post. He questioned the silence of allies and asked how such remarks would have been viewed if made against Dalits or minority communities.
VCK treasurer S.S. Balaji responded with a sharp message, saying slander born out of frustration would not shake them and that restraint was meant to avoid uncivil conduct. CPM parliamentary party leader Vasuki also criticised the framing of political relationships and said certain phrases reflected a patriarchal mindset.
Minister Aadhav said political criticism should not be built around a woman’s relationship and described the post as unacceptable, adding that Raja should apologise to VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan. He also sought a response from DMK leadership, and referred to DMK MP Kanimozhi’s public stance on women’s issues, urging condemnation of such conduct.
