Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the Centre would identify every person who has entered India illegally and deport them. He made the remarks while addressing an event of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Delhi.
Shah alleged that illegal infiltration is being carried out with the intent of artificially altering population patterns. He said the government’s approach would be to trace each illegal immigrant and ensure their removal from the country.
Outlining border-security measures, Shah said fencing would be set up along about 6,000 km of India’s international border. He added that, under a “smart border” plan, the BSF would be provided modern technology such as drones, radars and advanced cameras within the next year.
He also called for closer coordination to curb illegal infiltration and cattle smuggling, asking BSF officers to work with police and district collectors. Shah said merely controlling a problem is not enough, and urged the BSF to focus on eliminating infiltration at its root.
