Chennai’s campaign ended in disappointment as they suffered an 89-run defeat to Gujarat in their final league match in Ahmedabad, a result that also ended their playoff hopes.

After winning the toss, Chennai opted to bowl. Gujarat openers captain Gill and Sai Sudharsan put on a commanding start, adding 125 before Gill fell for 64 after a rapid half-century off 23 balls. Butler then continued the momentum with an aggressive knock.

Sai Sudharsan and Butler both reached fifties, with Sudharsan dismissed for 84 while Butler remained unbeaten on 57 off 27 balls. Gujarat finished on 229 for 4 in 20 overs. For Chennai, Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer Johnson and Anshul Kamboj picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 230, Chennai’s reply unravelled immediately as Samson was out for a duck off the first ball. Wickets fell in quick succession and the side was bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs, with Dube top-scoring with 47.

The win kept Gujarat in second place on the points table. Chennai, meanwhile, ended the league stage with six wins from 14 matches and were eliminated from playoff contention.
