The fourth India–Africa Forum Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from May 28 to May 31, has been postponed indefinitely in view of the Ebola virus outbreak.

The India–Africa Forum was set up to strengthen cooperation and ties with African nations. Previous summits under the framework were held in 2008, 2011 and 2015.

After an 11-year gap, the next summit was planned in Delhi with discussions expected on boosting investments and collaboration in areas such as trade, health, technology and infrastructure.

However, the Ebola outbreak has intensified in Congo and Uganda, and the World Health Organization has declared it a public health emergency of international concern.

The Union government held consultations with the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission, following which it decided to defer the summit. The Ministry of External Affairs said fresh dates will be announced later.
