Chennai: The Union Education Ministry has directed education department officials to closely monitor fake education-related social media pages and groups that circulate unverified information, officials said.

According to the directive, several accounts and channels operate using education department logos and claim to offer shortcuts such as “easy answers” and “likely exam questions”. Authorities say such content can distract students and affect studies, examinations, competitive exams and job preparation.

The ministry also flagged the role of some individuals who present themselves as “education advisers” and allegedly mislead competitive exam aspirants, divert them in the wrong direction and extract money. Many such groups are said to be run by unidentified persons on Telegram and other platforms.

Officials have been instructed to take steps to remove such pages and groups, and to intervene quickly when rumours spread. The ministry also asked departments to communicate accurate information to students to prevent fear and anxiety among students and parents, the directive said.
