Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has ordered that uniforms be made compulsory for students across all colleges and universities in the state, according to a statement issued by Raj Bhavan.

The directive was discussed at a meeting of vice-chancellors chaired by Patel at Lok Bhavan. The statement said the move is aimed at fostering a sense of equality among students.

It added that the order will apply to government and government-aided colleges affiliated with Jananayak Chandrashekhar University in Ballia.

The statement also called for introducing vocational and skill-based courses to build students’ confidence and employability, and encouraging students to take up natural farming on their own land to earn additional income.

Further, it stressed improving the condition of girls’ hostels and ensuring they remain away from anti-social environments. It also urged effective implementation of the National Education Policy, giving students freedom to choose courses, and helping employability by enabling students to learn yoga, painting and other skills alongside their main subjects.
