AIADMK MLA S P Velumani on Thursday dismissed speculation of a split within the party, saying there were only “some differences of opinion” and that certain sections were trying to portray the party negatively.

In his remarks, Velumani congratulated those who took oath in the TVK cabinet and rejected claims that his side had sought ministerial berths. He said the party had already explained why it extended support and insisted that no one from their camp had asked TVK for positions.

Velumani said AIADMK’s support was based on the belief that TVK had earned public trust. He alleged that misleading narratives were being circulated in the media and on social platforms, including claims that they had broken away from AIADMK for posts while expressing support in the Assembly.

Acknowledging the party’s electoral defeat, he reiterated that EPS continues to be the general secretary “then and now”. He said their discussions were focused on analysing how the defeat happened and how to correct course.

Velumani also denied rumours about plans to lay siege to or take over the party office, calling them false. He said their aim was to strengthen AIADMK and work towards bringing back the kind of governance associated with J Jayalalithaa.
