Chennai: Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) Sandeep Rai Rathod has directed that disciplinary action be initiated against the responsible Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Inspectors if TASMAC retail outlets or drinking bars are found open at 10:05 pm.

Police officials said TASMAC shops and bars are permitted to open at 12 noon and must close by 10 pm. However, complaints have been received that several outlets across the state do not shut at the prescribed time.

Citing the risk of law-and-order issues, the police have been monitoring whether outlets adhere to opening and closing hours. An earlier instruction required personnel to send selfies taken in front of TASMAC shops and bars with the location, date and time.

In the latest order issued to zonal IGs and district SPs, the DGP said action should be taken against the monitoring officers—SIs and Inspectors—if any outlet remains open at 10:05 pm.

He also instructed that if illegal liquor sales are detected near TASMAC shops or inside bars, the concerned Inspector should be suspended, officials added.
