Chennai: Public Works Department Minister Adhav Arjuna has warned that derogatory criticism targeting women could lead to police action if complaints are filed.
In an interview, the minister said decisions on post-election alliances are taken by respective party leaderships, and claimed no party has entered an alliance by accepting subservience to the DMK. He also alleged that despite forming a 36-member panel to review an electoral defeat, the DMK has not understood the reasons for its loss.
Adhav Arjuna criticised former Union minister A. Raja for comparing political alliances to sexual relationships, noting that Raja, a DMK deputy general secretary, had made the remarks publicly. He said the comments had hurt VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and party workers, and insisted Raja should apologise.
The minister further questioned when DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi, whom he described as a voice for women’s rights, would respond to the issue. He said women were key to forming the TVK government in Tamil Nadu and added that the police have been asked to ensure women’s safety and dignity, including taking strict action on complaints about offensive remarks made on social media or elsewhere.
