Former minister K.P. Krishnan has been appointed as the chairman of the Tamil Nadu government’s Urban Development Board, according to reports from Chennai.
A native of Kuzhumani in Tiruchy district, Krishnan entered electoral politics with the AIADMK and won from Srirangam in 1991, serving as Agriculture Minister. He later floated a party named “Tamilar Bhoomi” and subsequently joined the DMDK.
After returning to the AIADMK, he aligned with the O. Panneerselvam faction following the death of J. Jayalalithaa. In January, he joined the TVK in Mamallapuram in the presence of party leader Vijay and later contested the recent Assembly election from Lalgudi, where he was defeated.
Speculation had grown that Krishnan could be fielded for the Tiruchy East seat after Vijay, who won in two constituencies, resigned from Tiruchy East before taking office as Chief Minister. With Krishnan’s new appointment, it is now seen as certain that he will not be contesting from Tiruchy East.
