Chennai: Shajahan, who has been appointed as the Minister for Minority Welfare, began his official duties after a dua was recited at the Secretariat.

Shajahan, from the Indian Union Muslim League, was sworn in on Friday morning at Raj Bhavan. He then travelled to the Secretariat in an official vehicle, accompanied by family members and Ramanathapuram MP Nawaz Kani, among others.

Before the minister took his seat, Islamic clerics recited a dua. Shajahan then sat in his chair and commenced work.

In a similar development, Vanni Arasu of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, who assumed charge as Social Justice Minister, arrived at the Secretariat office allotted to him along with VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and party functionaries. Thirumavalavan greeted him with a bouquet and a book and helped him take his seat as minister.
