Punjab Police have arrested a man accused of secretly monitoring Indian Army movement near Pathankot and sending the footage to Pakistan, officials said.
According to police, a surveillance camera was found installed near a bridge in the Sujanpur area on a stretch of National Highway 44, a key route linking Pathankot with Jammu and Kashmir. The location is considered sensitive as Pathankot hosts major military infrastructure and serves as a transit point for troops and supplies.
Investigators said the camera was connected to the internet and was being live-streamed, raising suspicion. The probe allegedly led to Baljit Singh of Chak Dariwal village in Pathankot district, who is accused of installing the device and transmitting visuals of Army and paramilitary movement.
Police said their inquiry also indicated a connection to a person based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A review of Baljit Singh’s bank accounts reportedly showed he had recently received Rs 40,000 from the Dubai-based individual.
The seized camera has been sent for forensic examination. In the wake of the incident, police said checks on important highways are being planned, amid recent arrests in other cases involving filming of sensitive sites and sharing the material abroad.
